A manual skin graft mesher used to expand split-thickness skin grafts before application to a wound bed. The harvested graft is laid on a dermacarrier and passed through the device, which cuts a regular pattern of slits so the graft can be stretched to cover a larger recipient area than the donor site yielded. The slits also let serous and sanguineous fluid escape rather than collecting beneath the graft, where it would prevent adherence. Standard equipment in burns units, reconstructive surgery and trauma theatres, where donor skin is limited relative to the area needing coverage. Constructed in stainless steel and fully reusable, with manual crank operation requiring no power source — suited to theatres and field settings where powered dermatome systems aren't practical.
