This set is used to open a bone window in the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus so the Schneiderian membrane can be elevated and graft material placed beneath it, creating enough bone height for implants in the posterior maxilla. The instruments are deliberately abrasive rather than bladed: round-ended diamond-coated burs cut cortical bone but stall against soft tissue, so the membrane is far less likely to perforate as the window is completed — perforation being the complication that ends the procedure. The kit works in sequence, starting with the small Ø3.3 mm and Ø3.7 mm burs to outline and score the window, then moving to the larger Ø6.0 mm and Ø8.0 mm domed burs to thin and remove the bony plate. Two cup-shaped trephine-style burs at Ø8.0 mm complete the set, used to core the window or harvest bone.Every bur is gold-coated over the shank, a finish that improves visual contrast against blood and bone at the surgical site. Depth rings are marked in black on the stepped shanks, and each bur sits on a colour-coded silicone stopper — pink, green, blue and purple — with the diameter printed on the tray face beside it.
